Hello, artists!
The European Union (EU) has taken a significant step to combat microplastic pollution by banning the sale of certain types of glitter and other products in 2023. The aim of this measure is to reduce microplastic pollution by 30% by 2030. However, for those of us who create cards in the old continent, we still have glitter that we’ve accumulated over the years, so I’ve decided to dig out that forgotten glitter from a drawer and use it up. This way, I can switch to biodegradable (eco-friendly) glitter (such as Sizzix glitter), which is now accepted by the EU. Additionally, instead of using glitter, you can also opt for glitter cardstock.

La Unión Europea (UE) ha tomado una medida significativa para combatir la contaminación por microplásticos, prohibiendo la venta de ciertos tipos de purpurina y otros productos en 2023. El objetivo de esta medida es reducir la contaminación por microplásticos en un 30% antes de 2030. Sin embargo, para quienes creamos tarjetas en el viejo continente, todavía tenemos purpurina que hemos adquirido a lo largo de nuestros años de trabajo, y por eso he decidido sacar esa purpurina olvidada en un cajón y darle uso para terminarla. De esta manera, podré adquirir purpurina de plástico biodegradable (ecológica) (por ejemplo, la purpurina de Sizzix), que es la que actualmente está permitida por la Unión Europea. Además, en lugar de utilizar purpurina, también se puede optar por cartulina con acabado de purpurina.

To create this card, I used the "Yana's Amaryllis Cutting Dies" set from the new Spellbinders collection, "The Amaryllis Christmas Collection," designed by Yana Smakula. I started by applying double-sided adhesive paper to a piece of white cardstock (you can use other colors too). With the adhesive paper facing up, I die-cut the amaryllis flower twice (at the top and bottom of the card) using the Platinum 6 die-cutting machine from Spellbinders (you can use any standard-sized die-cutting machine as long as it fits the dies). If you notice that the die cuts beyond the cardstock and adhesive paper, simply add another piece of adhesive paper to a thinner piece of cardstock on the back to prevent the design from cutting all the way through.
Para crear esta tarjeta, he utilizado el set de troqueles "Yana's Amaryllis Cutting Dies" de la nueva colección de Spellbinders, "The Amaryllis Christmas Collection", diseñada por Yana Smakula. Comencé aplicando papel adhesivo de doble cara a un trozo de cartulina blanca (puedes utilizar otros colores). Con el papel adhesivo hacia arriba, troquelé la flor de amaryllis dos veces (en la parte superior e inferior de la tarjeta) utilizando la máquina de troquelar Platinum 6 de Spellbinders (puedes usar cualquier máquina de troquelado de tamaño estándar, siempre que los troqueles se ajusten). Si notas que el troquel corta más allá de la cartulina y el papel adhesivo, simplemente añade otro trozo de papel adhesivo a una cartulina de menor gramaje en la parte trasera para evitar que el diseño se corte por completo.
Next, I removed the adhesive paper in sections of the image to apply the glitter (to the background, the image, and the details). You can use a different color of glitter for each section, although I recommend using fine or ultra-fine glitter since coarse glitter doesn’t adhere as well, as you can see in the second card I made, shown at the end of this post.
A continuación, fui retirando el papel adhesivo por secciones de la imagen para aplicar la purpurina (en el fondo, la imagen y los detalles). Para cada sección se puede usar un color diferente de purpurina, aunque recomiendo utilizar purpurina fina o súper fina, ya que la purpurina gruesa no se adhiere tan bien, como se puede apreciar en la segunda tarjeta que realicé y que pueden observar al final de esta publicación.

To finish off this card, I added a sentiment I had already made on previous cards using the Glimmer set "Yana's Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil Plate and Die" and added some silver embellishments.
Para finalizar esta tarjeta, añadí una frase que ya había hecho en tarjetas anteriores, utilizando el set de Glimmer "Yana's Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil Plate and Die" y añadí algunas decoraciones plateadas.
The die set I chose for this card is very versatile. I've used it on several occasions with different techniques and themes. Although it’s intended for holiday projects, it can also be used for other purposes, as I’ve demonstrated in this post. Below, you can see another card made with the same die set but using different colors of glitter. As you can see, the fuchsia glitter is thicker and didn't fully adhere to the flower, even tinting part of the cardstock.
El set de troqueles que he escogido para realizar esta tarjeta es muy versátil. Lo he usado en varias ocasiones con diferentes técnicas y temáticas. Aunque esté pensado para festividades navideñas, también se puede utilizar para otros propósitos, como he demostrado en esta publicación. A continuación, podéis ver otra tarjeta realizada con el mismo set de troqueles, pero utilizando otros colores de purpurina. Como podéis ver, la purpurina fucsia es más gruesa y no se adhirió completamente a la flor, e incluso tiñó parte de la cartulina.
