Stamping with Dies | Estampación con Troqueles

Gnomes are magical creatures and a favorite in the world of cardmaking, especially for the Christmas season. However, after using the same product year after year, we try to make the most of it through different cardmaking techniques. For this card, we recommend "making" stamps through die-cutting. Our intention is to create a one-layer card (without dimension), with the stamped image as a guide, and then, color it in by hand. With this cardmaking technique, it is as if we had stamped the image instead of using the dies.

Los gnomos son seres mágicos y que son favoritos en el mundo de la tarjetería, especialmente para la temporada de navidad. No obstante, después de la utilización de un mismo producto año tras año, se intenta sacar el máximo partido a través de diferentes técnicas en tarjetería. Para esta tarjeta, recomendamos "fabricar" sellos a través de troqueles. Nuestra intención es crear una tarjeta de un solo panel (sin relieve), con la imagen estampada como guía para luego colorearlas a mano. Con esta técnica de tarjetería, es como si hubiésemos estampado la imagen en vez de utilizar los troqueles.

Gnome Hugs Etched Dies from The Holiday Hugs Collection: S6-213

Stamp sets are the most commonly used in creative cardmaking but, in fact, dies can be used to even greater effect as they can be used to make stamps. For this card, we have chosen a gnome with different parts so if we turn it into stamps, we will have to stamp in layers - the die set is the Gnome Hugs Etched Dies from Spellbinders. Simply choose a foam piece and die-cut it with the dies. Then, you add the glue tape runner to each foam piece that will hold it to the MISTI lid or an acrylic block. You could color each piece with colored inks, or any other medium you like.

Los set de sellos es lo más utilizado en la tarjetería creativa pero, en realidad, a los troqueles se les puede sacar incluso más partido ya que se pueden hacer sellos. Para esta tarjeta, se ha escogido un gnomo con diferentes partes por lo que si lo convertimos en sellos, tendremos que estampar en capas - el set de troqueles es el Gnome Hugs Etched Dies de Spellbinders. Basta con escoger una pieza de goma eva (o foamy) y troquelarla con los troqueles. Luego se le añade el pegamento de cinta a cada pieza de foamy que hará que se sostenga en la tapa de la MISTI o a un bloque de acrílico. Se podría colorear cada pieza con una tinta de color, o cualquier otro medio que queramos. 

For these cards, we tried two ways to stamp the foam pieces; the first one is that we stamped all the layers made in foam with colorless ink (no color), and then, with a little imagination and looking at each layer, we colored the image with Polychromos, which are pigmented colored pencils that make their color last on dark cardstock (see the photos of some of the cards). To color the image, simply follow the strokes of the colorless ink, the coloring technique is up to each person, depending on how you want to color it. For these cards, we colored the image of the gnome and, later, we included some decorations colored with the same medium (the Polychromos).

Para estas tarjetas, probamos dos maneras de estampar con la goma eva: la primera es que estampamos todas las capas realizadas en foamy con una tinta incolora (sin color) para, luego, con un poco de imaginación y viendo cada capa, coloreamos con los Polychromos, que son lápices de colores pigmentados lo que hacen que su color se conserve sobre cartulina oscura (véase las fotos de algunas tarjetas). Para colorear la imagen, simplemente se debe seguir los trazos de la tinta incolora, la técnica de coloración ya es decisión de cada uno, según como lo quieres colorear. Para estas tarjetas, coloreamos la imagen del gnomo y, posteriormente, se incluyeron algunas decoraciones coloreadas con el mismo medio (los Polychromos). 

For the second way, all of the above guidelines were followed, except the ink chosen to stamp the image (gnome). For this, white pigment ink was used. It has to be a pigment ink, as these are the ones whose ink is preserved on dark cardstock. When these "manufactured stamps" are stamped on cardstock and with only one ink, either colorless or white pigment ink, the truth is that it looks a bit chaotic, but then, the originality comes with the coloring and with the medium, even coloring simply, it looks very nice.

Para la segunda manera, se realizaron todas las directrices mencionadas anteriormente, con la excepción de la tinta escogida para estampar el imagen (gnomo). Para ello, se utilizó la tinta de pigmento blanco. Ha de ser una tinta pigmentada ya que son las que su tinta se conserva en cartulinas oscuras. Cuando se estampan estos "sellos fabricados" sobre la cartulina y con una sola tinta, ya sea la incolora o la de pigmento blanco, la verdad es que queda un poco caótico, pero luego, la originalidad viene con la coloración y con el medio, incluso coloreando de manera simple, queda muy bonito. 

There is a difference between stamping with colorless ink and white pigment ink. The former makes the colors more similar as it is used directly on the cardstock, i.e. the color is what it is, both on white cardstock and on dark cardstock and without ink in between. However, in the second case, there is a little difference, as the pigment ink is on the surface of the cardstock, the color is lost a little, which makes it darken a little. Therefore, to get a more authentic color, it would be better to stamp with the first ink, the colorless one.

Existe una diferencia entre estampar con tinta incolora y con la tinta de pigmento blanco. La primera hace que los colores sean más similares al utilizarse directamente sobre la cartulina, es decir, el color es el que es, tanto en cartulina blanca como en cartulina oscura y sin tinta de por medio. Sin embargo, la segunda sí hay un poco de diferencia, al estar la tinta de pigmento sobre la superficie de la cartulina, el color se pierde un poco, lo que hace que se oscurezca un poco. Así que para conseguir un color más auténtico sería estampar con la primera, con la tinta incolora. 

For most of these cards, the phrases are stamps from Spellbinders' House-Mouse Holiday Collection, although one card was die-cut - Make it Merry Sentiments Etched Dies, using the Glimmer Hot Foil System, to give it a sparkle.
