Colored Christmas Cards | Tarjetas de Navidad Coloreadas

Hello crafty friends,

The Christmas card season is starting. I like to start making my cards this month and send them out at the beginning of December, although some of my colleagues in the industry have been making them for a long time already. For this publication, it has been decided to color the cards by hand, using alcohol-based markers such as Copic or Promarkers. I do not consider myself an expert at coloring cards, but I like to practice and try out new color combinations.

¡Comenzamos la temporada de tarjetas navideñas!. Me gusta comenzar hacer mis tarjetas en este mes y enviarlas a principios de diciembre, aunque algunos compañeros y compañeras de esta industria ya llevan tiempo creándolas. Para esta publicación, se ha decidido colorear las tarjetas a mano, utilizando rotuladores de alcohol como los Copic o los Promarkers. No me considero una experta en colorear tarjetas pero me gusta practicar y probar nuevos combos de colores.

These cards were created with different stamp sets that belong to the same Spellbinders collection (BD-0781): RSC-013, RSC-014, RSC-016, RSC-017. It is a very cute collection as they are little mice at Christmas. I stamped the different images on white cardstock pre-cut to standard card size (4.25 by 5.5 inches). The ink used is black but compatible coloring for alcohol markers to prevent the ink from smearing. In addition, a stamping tool, the mini MISTI, was used so that it could be stamped several times, although a clear block could also be used.

Estas tarjetas fueron creadas con diferentes sets de sellos que pertenecen a la misma colección de Spellbinders (BD-0781): RSC-013, RSC-014, RSC-016, RSC-017. Es una colección muy bonita ya que son ratoncitos en navidad. Estampé las diferentes imágenes en cartulina blanca precortadas previamente en tamaño para tarjetas (4,25 por 5,5 pulgadas). La tinta utilizada es negra pero compatible para colorear con rotuladores de alcohol para evitar que la tinta se esparsa. Asimismo, se utilizó una herramienta para estampar, la mini MISTI, para poder estampar varias veces, aunque también podría utilizarse un bloque de metacrilato. 

For the coloring of these cards, it was decided to have a lot of contrast between light and dark colors to dramatize the scene. In other words, dark cards with a halo of light to practice the direction of the light. Therefore, we started by coloring/marking the images (the mice) but, only those areas of light, areas that should be lighter than the rest. From this area onwards, they were colored from darker to lighter (until they reached the area we had marked before). When the coloring of the images was finished, we proceeded to color the background. In my case, I had a general idea and a "laughing sketch" because I never really do it (I usually draw sticks), but then, I always change my mind and change the scene completely at the moment of coloring it. So if you're not sure, it is better to have the idea in sketch (in pencil), even if you change your mind later.

Para colorear estas tarjetas, se decidió que debían tener mucho contraste, entre colores claros y oscuros para conseguir dramatizar la escena. En otras palabras, tarjetas oscuras con un halo de luz para practicar la dirección de la misma. Por lo tanto, se comenzó coloreando / marcando las imágenes (los ratones) pero,  solamente aquellas zonas de luz, áreas que debían ser claras al resto. A partir de esta zona se iban coloreando de más oscuro a claro (hasta llegar a la zona que habíamos marcado). Cuando se terminó de colorear las imágenes, se procedió a colorear el fondo. En mi caso, tenía una idea general y un "sketch de risa" porque nunca me esmero en realizarlo (suelo dibujar palitos), pero luego, siempre cambio de opinión y cambio la escena totalmente en el momento de colorearla. Así que si no estás seguro, es mejor tener la idea en boceto (a lápiz), aunque después cambies de idea. 

Black and white colored pencils (Polychromos, for example) were used to achieve depth in the images, delimiting the light and dark areas. Using colored pencils is very important as it changes the card a lot, especially in the images, not in the background.

Se utilizaron lápices de colores negro y blanco (Polychromos, por ejemplo), para conseguir profundidad en las imágenes, delimita zonas con más luz y zonas oscuras. Utilizar los lápices de colores es muy importante ya que cambia mucho la tarjeta, especialmente en las imágenes, no en el fondo. 

For the phrases on this card, the sentiment was embossed in white, except for one which was stamped with Versafine's black pigment ink to emboss with transparent embossing powder.

Para las frases de esta tarjeta, embosó el sentimiento en color blanco, excepto en una que se estampó con la tinta de pigmento negro de Versafine para embosarla con polvos transparentes. 

Finally, touches were added with black Sakura Glaze for the eyes of the images, transparent Sakura Glaze to add a little dimension to some objects such as the drum or the candy canes, and white gel pen to highlight the snow or the eyes of the images.

Finalmente, se añadió toques con los Sakura Glaze de color negro para los ojos de las imágenes, Sakura Glaze transparente para añadir un poco de relieve a algunos objetos como, por ejemplo, al tambor o a los bastones de caramelo, y bolígrafo de gel blanco para resaltar la nieve o los ojos de las imágenes. 

These stamp sets are without a doubt my favourite, perfect for this time of year to bring a smile to the faces of those who receive these cards. If you like to color with different media, watercolors, or alcohol markers, these stamps are perfect to let your imagination run wild. It's all in the background, the colors chosen, and the direction of the light. Whether you want brighter cards or more contrast. There are no limits to your creativity.

Estos set de sellos es sin dudarlo mis favoritos, perfectos para esta época del año y sacarles una sonrisa a aquellos quien reciben estas tarjetas. Si te gusta colorear con diferentes medios, acuarelas o rotuladores de alcohol, estos sellos son perfectos para dar paso a tu imaginación. Todo se encuentra en el fondo, en los colores elegidos y en la dirección de la luz. Si quieres tarjetas más brillantes o con más contraste. La creatividad no tiene límites.
